RE: Pike's peak

1948 The Pikes Peak Highway was then set up as a toll road under a permit from the Department of Agriculture. Since June 7, 1948 it has been operated successfully by the City of Colorado Springs.Very true...... and that's why it is a toll road and they can make their own rules and enforce them. Again I ask you... are you going to be an idiot and not stop or are you going to be safe?

RE: Pike's peak

On the way down they have a mandatory stop for brake temperature testing. Please provide the Reference (Law) that States you must STOP to allow the BRAKES to Cool Down...There are road people that will stop you. If you don't stop you will get a ticket for driving an unsafe vehicle, and failure to obey a traffic control device (the stop sign). Now do you want to be an idiot or do you want to be safe?

RE: I-70 Colorado Springs to Grand Junction, CO

we arrived in Colorado to just drive from one side to the other and after much of the better part of 2 ½ years out there we still have only scratched the surface. We actually have just driven some of the roads with no real destination and have discovered just more and more things to enjoy, hardly a road we have ever been on that was not a great trip with great sights. I think between the answers you have gotten on the Route and the CG’s you have a good start – just try to get a little more time – Colorado will not disappoint.I've been out here for 30 years and haven't seen it all. :B

RE: I-70 Colorado Springs to Grand Junction, CO

MANY NFS campgrounds along that route, but most are several miles off the main highway.

RE: I-70 Colorado Springs to Grand Junction, CO

Well, since you are out here to see the scenery, I'd take Hwy 24 west from the Springs, through Woodland Park, across South Park, to Leadville and then on to Minturn and I-70. It is a nice drive, has 4 easy passes, and isn't that bad.

RE: Computer software - minibox?

Mini-box packaging means there is no manual included. Just the CD/DVD and a quickstart guide. Any manuals are included on the disk and can be accessed using the program.

RE: from Redstone Co to Telluride Co.

The road is a very nice drive. Easy grades and scenic views. You shouldn't have any problems at all.

RE: Colorado winter camping and hot springs

It depends on where you are, and where you want to go. For example, just west of Nathrop is Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and while they don't have camping onsite there are several NFS campgrounds that are open all year nearby. Another hot springs is just west of Buena Vista. Last time I was over there the name was Cottonwood Hot Springs. They may allow you to park onsite but I doubt it, again there are NFS campground nearby. Then there are hot springs in the San Luis Valley, and at Salida, and in Ouray. There is a book that lists all the various hot springs in Colorado and how to get to them. Some are hike in trips, like Conundrum, and others are right alongside the road.

RE: How to go from Eagle, CO (I-70) to Albuquerque?

My other thought is to take 24 from I-70 south to Alamosa, then 285 into New Mexico. This is how I would go.

RE: Home insurance photo requirements

My insurance company wanted pics of the outside of the house just to verify that what is on the coverage is what teh house is. Just exterior shots taken from the street. Now our agent told me to video tape things in each room, especially the expensive things incase there is a breakin.

One Mile is an NFS campground in the Gunnison NF, near Almont.

RE: colorado campgrounds

If you indeed mean Eleven Mile, then there is electric only. No full hookups. I don't think that all the sites have electric but I could be mistaken.

RE: Canon City, CO to Antonito CO

If it were me, I'd head west on 50 to Salida, enjoy the scenery, and then head south on 17/285 over Poncha Pass to Alamosa and Antonito.

RE: Service Centers

In my area the service centers will start working on a rig within 12-24 hours of you delivering it to them. The time spent keeping it depends on what special parts may be needed and how quickly those parts can be obtained. As an example, I took my trailer in for some roof vent work and the service center had the rig for a total of 5 days. I dropped the trailer off on Monday morning, they looked at the ac cover and decided to order a metal one that afternoon. It came in on Wed and was installed Thurs. In the meantime the reefer vent cover was replaced as well as two of the regular vent covers. I was able to pickup the rig on Friday afternoon about 4 pm.

RE: Fridge wont light at high altitudes

Also consider that maybe the thermocouple isn't in the direct flame and isn't being heated enough.
